A Brief Women's Pants Buyer’s Guide
The list below has been compiled by four women riders, all with different body shapes that include a little “extra” in at least one of the major hard-to-fit areas (stomach, hips, seat, thighs, and calves).
After years of meticulous research, trial and error, online shopping, returns, and every once in awhile hitting the “perfect fit” jackpot (it’s happening more frequently lately, which is awesome news), these women are ready to share their favorite pieces of plus-sized motorcycle pants with you.

Frequently Asked Questions About Women's Motorcycle Pants
How do women's motorcycle pants differ from unisex or men’s pants?
In general, women’s motorcycle pants have wider and deeper hip and posterior areas due to the natural biology of women compared to men. Apart from that, women’s pants also go to slightly smaller sizes than unisex or men’s pants, once again due to the average female being shorter/smaller than the average male. Other than that, they are very similar.
What about motorcycle leggings? Do those count as women’s motorcycle pants?
Motorcycle leggings do count as women’s pants, however we don’t recommend them due to the fact that they are m 95% of the time designed to provide only abrasion resistance with little to no armor. Many times, even the manufacturer recommends using them with a pair of riding jeans or proper riding pants. We recommend gear on a concept known as “Defense in depth,” meaning anything we recommend has good armor and excellent abrasion resistance, which is why we do not recommend motorcycle leggings except as a base layer.
What fitment information do I need for women’s motorcycle pants?
The three crucial measurements are your waist at the navel, your hips at their thickest as close to the hip rotator as possible, and your inseam from groin to the bottom of your malleolus (ankle bone). Useful measurements include your thigh diameter at its thickest while seated with your knees bent at 90 degrees, as well as your calf diameter at its thickest in the same position to ensure that jeans listed as “slim fit” will actually fit.
Which material is the best for women’s motorcycle pants?
That really depends on what type of riding you’re doing. For those wanting pants for touring, cruising, or just average everyday riding, any set of pants will work. For those more interested in sport riding and even track days, many tracks require leather or synthetic leather pants with slider pucks on the knees. Overall, leather is the “safest” material as it has the highest and longest duration abrasion resistance, but many synthetic materials are catching up quite quickly.
What type of materials are women’s motorcycle pants commonly made from?
The most common materials used in motorcycle pants these days in general are polyester rip-stop fabric, microfiber synthetic leather, Cordura, spandura, and full-grain leather. All have excellent abrasion resistance, with leather still taking the top spot for the best abrasion resistance, despite some synthetics like Cordura getting very close to being on par. Armor is usually flexible TPU or non-Newtonian impact foam.
Do I really need a set of women’s motorcycle pants? I have a unisex pair that fits perfectly already!
You do not necessarily need a pair of women’s motorcycle pants, but they have been designed specifically for the unique shape of women compared to men. If you have a unisex pair that fits perfectly, then by all means keep using them! It’s better to have a perfect fit, as a loose fit can cause the pants to move and shift in a slide or accident and not keep the armor where it is supposed to be.
What To Think About When Shopping For Ladies Pants
One of the first pieces of gear that most riders purchase is a bike specific pants. The goal is to protect your body from abrasion related injuries as well as impact injuries, so most riders focus on the armor and density or durability of the shell of the pants.
However, in many cases, after several rides in that first pants, riders learn a great deal about what they didn’t know about motorcycle pants and what they didn’t know about their own priorities and preferences. And that learning curve is often far more steep for ladies as they are often forced to make do with a men’s pant rather than a gender-specific ladies pant.

At WBW, “Best” Actually Means Something
Remember when you could open up a review of something, and when the publication—magazine, car show, whatever—said “best” they stood behind it? Yea, we remember, and we’re bringing it back.
Here’s how we do things:
We disclose our affiliate relationships—We make money via advertising and affiliate relationships on our website. It’s how we pay our team and invest in things like sending Jim to Italy. And Japan. And France… wait… why do we always send Jim places?
We obsessively hands-on test—We wear and ride with gear before reviewing it, and we update reviews down the line if our opinions change. We look at real-world situations because that’s the world we live in.
We’re objective—Good gear is good gear, regardless of who made it.
We’re value-focused—Why pay $500 if something for $250 is just as good? Our review scores and recommendations reflect best value. Brand only goes so far—the gear has to stand on its own.
