2022 Triumph Tiger Sport 660: A Triumph Tiger That’s Most Comfortable on Tarmac
Contents
The latest middleweight offering from Triumph Motorcycles is the Tiger Sport 660, a touring-oriented model that finds its roots in the recently launched Trident 660 platform. Despite bearing the ‘Tiger’ moniker, the Tiger Sport 660 doesn’t share the off-road credentials of its bigger siblings in the 2022 Triumph Motorcycles portfolio and is most comfortable on tarmac.
Powering the motorcycle is the same engine from the Trident — a 660cc inline three-cylinder, producing 80hp and 47.2 lb-ft of torque. The British manufacturer is quite familiar with the inline-triple architecture, and this engine boasts of strong low-end torque and an explosive midrange.
The Tiger Sport 660 is effectively a Trident on stilts. It’s a larger-looking motorcycle with a 4.5 US gal fuel tank, a higher ground clearance, and a taller seat height. It also features a longer subframe, giving the rider a more spacious seat. Triumph Motorcycles has also equipped the bike with wider, upright handlebars and an adjustable windscreen, making it notably comfortable for extended highway stints.
The sport-tourer’s road-biased design is evident if you look at the hardware. There’s Showa suspension with 150mm of travel at either end, and only the rear offers adjustability for preload. Braking hardware includes Nissin two-piston calipers at the front that work alongside twin 310mm discs and a single-piston caliper at the back with a 255mm disc.
Other features include a basic TFT display that allows you to toggle through two riding modes — Road and Rain — and adjust traction control settings. Like with all Triumph Motorcycles, the Tiger Sport 660 is available with a host of optional features, including a Bluetooth connectivity module that offers turn-by-turn navigation, GoPro camera control, and phone and music operation. You can also equip the bike with hand guards, heated grips, frame sliders, and color-coded panniers, among other accessories.
The 2022 Triumph Tiger Sport 660 starts at $9,495 USD / $10,995 CAD.
